    In the Beginning...

You have a dream to build your log home.  That is where it all starts.  Two, three, five years later you are getting ready to build.  So, what to do and when to do it.

Buy Your Land!
First, buy some land.  Buy it soon.  Land will only appreciate over time.  So, find your perfect setting and write a purchase contract.  We offer lot and land loans up to 30 year terms without prepayment or balloons.  Our loan programs offer up to 95% financing and may allow for the financing of closing costs.

A couple things to consider with land.  Most important is that the equity in the land can count toward the construction project.  So, if you buy 20 acres for $100,000 now and in 3 years it is worth $200,000 you have $100,000 in equity toward your project.  Most banks will require that you have owned the land for a minimum of 6 months to realize any equity in the project.  The acquisition of your property is where it all starts.  You have a dream to build your log home. Two, three, or five years later, when you will be ready to build, we will be here to assist you with your log home construction loan.  Next, you will need a home.

Log Type
Now that you have secured your building site, it is time to find the perfect home to build.  Some of our clients spend up to 5 years researching the home of their dreams.  This is your dream home, so take your time.  Get some magazines.  Log Home Living, Log Homes Illustrated, and Log Home Design are just a few.  This is great place to get ideas of what you like and do not like.  This should you to narrow down to a few log companies.  There are really two schools for log homes.  Milled and Handcrafted.

During your research your personal style will become evident.  Either you like the uniformed look and the smaller diameter of Milled logs or you will like the larger, rustic look of Handcrafted logs.  Then, you will need to choose between chinked vs. chinkless and kiln dried vs. air dried.  From there you will have eliminated most of the log companies that do not produce what you are looking for in a log home.  Now, you need to select a supplier.

Find your Supplier
When you have narrowed your selection down to a few suppliers, start to research them.  Visit a log home show in your area.  Most companies that build in your area will be represented.  This is the perfect opportunity to talk with several suppliers at once.  Like with anything in life, you will hit it off with some people and not with others.  Since building your log home may be a year long relationship, you should be comfortable with the company you select for your log package.

Go to a log stack or two.  This will give you a first hand look at the home building process.  Some companies deliver a log package and you or your builder is responsible to stack the home.  Other companies stack their own homes in a few days as part of the package.  Another decision to make when selecting a log supplier.  Do you want to be the one stacking your log home?  Or would you rather let an experienced crew do that?  Or do you can pay a builder to figure it out?

Now you are getting closer to selecting a supplier?  You can now see why you need to get pre-approved before making design decisions..
